New Year Resolutioners have a bad rap. (Sad face.)
They are accused of abandoning the gym by early March, reverting back to their old spending ways, and accumulating more clutter than they purge.
What if I told you I had a fool-proof way to achieve success with your resolutions goals?
It’s not because I am anything fancy. I’m simply a Certifiable Type A-er who has been to this rodeo a time or two and learned a few things along the way.
The desired end-result of any resolution is to be better. Right?! So the first thing to do is begin goal-planning with realistic and grace-filled expectations.
When this is done, we ALWAYS come out of the experience having learned something, which is ultimately one of the best ways to better ourselves. Amiright?!
With this focus in mind, I created a little twist on the SMART goals you may already be familiar with.
I call it B-SMART-R…
B- Balanced 7
By adding the “R”, I’m committing to reflecting on my goals at the end of January. This is especially great for someone like me, because I tend to toss in the ENTIRE towel linen closet if I miss or mess up just one goal. This way, I am giving myself permission to learn and observe from a failed (or misplaced) goal.
I’d love it if you would join me to B-SMART-R this month!
To make it as easy as possible, I’ve included this free printable. My apologies for the lack of creative design. (You can’t shake what your momma didn’t give ya.) If anyone out there wants to jazz this up, by all means, let’s hook up.
Here are some basic guidelines to B-SMART-R…
- ONE goal per area of balance. (Could you create more than one for each area? Sure! You’re a rock-star! But let’s start simple and remember we want our goals to be attainable and realistic with a slice of grace on the side. ;))
- Write down goals! (You can use this printable, a big dry-erase board, or a simple pen and paper works just fine. But they HAVE to be written down somewhere!)
- Make them visible! (Self-explanatory, yes?)
- Don’t give up! (If you notice you are struggling with a goal or two, don’t abandon ship! Use the “Reflection” box to write down WHY or HOW that goal got derailed and keep that super spirit up!) (I’m sorry; my inner cheerleader tends to rear her peppy head this time of year.)
Simple enough? This shouldn’t take too much time, so starting TODAY is totally doable!
Let’s re-group for Part 2 at the end of the month to reflect on how our B-SMART-R goals succeeded!
I would love for you to share your goals!
Happy 2016, friend!
