I’m peacin’ out for some peace… from social media, that is.
I’ve decided to take a hiatus from Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and the like for the foreseeable future. This purposeful pause could last a few weeks, a few months, or longer; I’m not really sure.
It feels a little egotistical to make this grand announcement, but I’ve got a few reasons if you happen to be curious.
“Success demands singleness of purpose.” –Gary Keller, author of The One Thing
Because this year’s blog (and personal) focus is “Back to Health”, I’ve gotta be real about what puts that in jeopardy. Like a lot of things we discuss on this little corner of the internet, a happy balance with social media can be attained, but lately, it’s been sucking away my time, quality sleep, and ability to stay truly and deeply connected to my life. Turns out, these are some of the biggest things I’m out to protect and nourish so anything that distracts me from that simply has to go. Writing is a healthy outlet for me, so I may post updates and thoughts on the blog itself, but it won’t be shared via social media. SOOOO… if you want to stay connected, be sure to subscribe via email. 🙂
I just have to tell you that we are in such a sweet spot with our spunky girl these days! She is so much stinkin’ fun! AND self sufficient and helpful! (Proof: JUST yesterday she picked up everything off the floor on her own initiative so she could run the Roomba, put away my sandals because they weren’t in their proper place (my bad) AND reminded Daddy not to forget his bag for work! What the WHAT?!) We have finally gotten a handle on a discipline method that works for our strong-willed mastermind and parenting lately has been straight up fun. You better believe I’m going to soak up the sun and every one of these moments with my Bugaboo this summer.
Besides my little love, I want to be much more intentional with the other actual human beings that desire to be in my life each day. My husband, family, and close friends deserve my purposeful attention and I’m excited to kick those authentic relationships up a notch.
I’m also psyched to share that after many pauses, redirects, and re-writes, my book is finally flowing! Actual words are appearing on a real-life screen and it feels amazing! Now, this is the ghastly first draft of probably one hundred (I’m not even exaggerating.) but there is a story burning in my belly that simply has to get out. If I don’t carve out specific and deliberate time to work on this aspiration, nobody else will. As Rachel Hollis says in one of my new favorite books Girl, Wash Your Face, “Nobody will ever care about your dreams as much as you do. Ever. You are the steward of your own dreams!”
So. I’m going stewarding. That’s a word, right? I should probably figure that out if I want to be published. 😉
IF YOU NEED ME
I also just wanted to make sure that you knew I was still alive and thriving and absolutely want to stay connected with you! If you ever want to touch base, don’t hesitate to kick it old school and email me at email@example.com.
Likewise, hit up that same email address if you have any questions about Juice Plus or VIPKID. I’m still super passionate and invested in these companies and love to share at any opportunity! Moral of the story: Don’t be a stranger. Just because I’ll no longer be pestering you with photos of my tiny tot, blog posts, or my favorite things doesn’t mean I’m not thinking about you and wouldn’t love to hear from you!
I LOVE YOU
On a similar note, it gives me so much joy to see the amazing things happening in your life. I’m truly bummed to miss celebrating your birthdays, “LIKING” and “LOVING” your wedding pictures, pregnancies, babies, new jobs, and personal successes. That is one of many beautiful things about social media and I will miss laughing with you, crying over a tear-jerking You Tube video or funny meme. Dang it, I’m going to miss those memes. Ya’ll text and email me some from time to time, will ya? 😉
And because it bears repeating, stay in touch! Hit up my digits if you got ’em, send an email or get totally crazy and send some snail mail. I will always be joyful to hear from you!
I’ll leave you with the theme verse from my high school graduation because its melody rings as powerfully in my heart today as it did, well, just a couple of years ago. 😉
“I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” (Phillipians 1:3-6)
