“I feel like I’m spinning my wheels!”
We aren’t losing weight the way we’d hoped. We’re not seeing the financial gains we’d been planning for. We’re still in the same career we were ten years ago. The medical diagnosis isn’t improving. We’re not moving forward; we’re stuck. We’re spinning our wheels and getting absolutely NO WHERE.
As a born and raised farm girl, I recall the imagery all too easily. I’ve seen countless pieces of farm machinery become immovable in the mud, or, um, other stuff.
These huge, powerful engines roar and hum, spinning their ginormous wheels in an effort to achieve their life’s purpose.
If you’ve never lived on a farm you might scoff at the idea that a tractor has a life’s purpose. But ask any farmer and he will tell you that his equipment is invaluable. A combine, semi, skid steer, an ATV… each of these tools has a unique and important job to do; they are all an essential and irreplaceable participant to the triumph and prosperity of the farm.
But you know I’m not here to talk about farm machinery, right?
You, my friend, are that tractor. Your purpose in this life is important, unique, and paramount to God’s beautiful plan.
But if you’re anything like me, sometimes you get stuck in the mud… or the other stuff of life. Every once in a while, we find ourselves spinning our wheels, desperately wanting to make headway and achieve our goals, but we just AREN’T MOVING.
We get discouraged. We start counting all of our failures. We begin to think that we will never get out of this muck. We give up. We start again. And we want to give up once more.
Sweet readers, I want to encourage you today to keep spinning your wheels.
A wise and smokin’ hot man once reminded me (yes, if you’re wondering, my hubby IS quite wise AND smokin’ hot), the wheels always break free eventually. Maybe the tires get out of their rut by sheer force of will and determination, perhaps they get a little help from their friends, but when you merge God’s vision for your life with the resolve to never give up, there is no pile of crap you can’t put behind you.
He puts it a little more delicately, but here’s what our Divine Farmer has to say about it…
But as for you, be strong and courageous, for your work will be rewarded. (1 Chronicles 15:7, NLT)
For I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:13, NLT)
So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. (Galatians 6:9, NLT)
This is my command- be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1:9, NLT)
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. (Isaiah 41:10, NLT)
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11, NLT)
Your eyes saw me before I was put together. And all the days of my life were written in Your book before any of them came to be. (Psalm 139:16, NLV)
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7, NLT)
So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27, NIV)
However, you are chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, people who belong to God. You were chosen to tell about the excellent qualities of God, who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9, GW)
God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen. (1 Peter 4:10-11, NLT)
When you feel stuck, discouraged, or stagnant, it’s natural to become weary; it’s easier to turn off the engine. Don’t give up, my friends! Summon the strength He has placed inside of you; be fearless, knowing that He is by your side; live your life on purpose for your amazing God-given purpose! And no matter what, my dear friends, never stop spinning your wheels.
