Merry Christmas, friends!
Can you believe it is almost upon us?!
If you’re anything like me, you are teetering back and forth between feeling frazzled and just ready to succumb to the reality that everything simply CANNOT be done perfectly. It CANNOT. Let’s just take a deep breath and become one with that thought.
Christmas will come and go regardless of how many cookies we bake, cards we send out, or special touches we add to a gift. It will fly by in the blink of an eye with only wrapping paper and a few extra pounds left behind.
Or will it?
Since this special holiday is coming on full force no matter how hard we try to slow down time, it’s time to get ready.
“HOW DO I DO THAT?!”
Well, here’s a thought: Give the gift of your presence.
Soak up every chaotic moment of that too-long road trip. Smile at the annoying stranger in the airport. Sit in the kitchen with your mom and enjoy every laugh, every scent, and every conversation. Cherish every hug. Really LISTEN to the message at church. FEEL the music run through your spirit. Soak up the noise of excited children. CONNECT with your in-laws. And turn off that darn phone. Unplug for an extended period of time. And take a few pictures, but take your head out of your camera long enough to truly REMEMBER those moments.
This time of year is an amazing opportunity to reflect on the love of our Savior and the love we get to experience with family and friends because of His amazing birth, life, death and resurrection. Try your best to LOVE the ones you’re with. Give them grace. Give them attention. Give them YOU.
It is truly the best gift you can give.
So, in the spirit of this post, I will be signing off for a bit to do just that. I will “see” you after the New Year, when you can be sure we will kick off a more balanced new year together!
May God truly shine upon you and your loved ones this holiday season and have a very Merry Christmas!
Much love, from my family to yours,
